Things I Wish I'd
Offered Sooner
In the air conditioning business, manufacturers are always pushing us to sell the next big product. Some are great. Some aren't. It's hard not to get caught up in the noise.
What I've learned: study it and test it before you offer it. Every product has to pass three questions:
- Will it help the client?
- Will it last?
- Does it make financial sense?
Case in point: UV lights.
I tried them all: inexpensive single bulbs, LED bulbs, and duct and air sanitizers. Here's what I learned:
- One bulb isn't enough. You need more than a single bulb to cover the air handler.
- UV only sanitizes what it shines on. Coverage matters.
- You should be able to see that it's working. The system needs a power source outside the unit that shows whether it's on.
- Bulb life matters. Look for a bulb rated to last for at least two years.
- Can the system handle upgraded cleaners?
